Breaking Boundaries
Creative Campus presents Breaking Boundaries a fresh take on a student-centered art show showcasing art about, for, and by the LGBTTQA community. The Alabama Art Kitchen is hosting the exhibit from April 4-15, 2011 in their University Boulevard location in downtown Tuscaloosa. In addition to normal business hours, the exhibit will be on display during Art Night on Thursday, April 7, 2011 from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Creative Campus will host an open reception for the exhibit and literary reading on Tuesday, April 12, 2011 at 6:30 pm. At the event, University of Alabama Associate Professor of English, Wendy Rawlings will be reading excerpts from her novel, The Agnostics, written about a family and community coping with early ideas of a non-straight lifestyle in 20th century America. There will be allotted time for questions and discussion, as Dr. Rawling’s work is not only stimulating but also extremely relevant to the project goals. Creative Campus presents Breaking Boundaries with the expectation that art will provide a starting point for a deeper dialogue about LGBTTQA issues that other mechanisms may not offer. The Breaking Boundaries project is seeking submissions of visual and written artwork (paintings, photography, poetry, fashion design, etc) that celebrate or speak to the issues and identities
