Creative Campus Schedules Artists, Musicians for March 24, 2012 Festival
TUSCALOOSA, AL – The University of Alabama’s Creative Campus is pleased to announce the music line-up for the 3rd Annual Druid City Arts Festival (DCAF). Celebrating regional arts and music, this year’s DCAF has expanded into a week-long festival. In a new partnership, Creative Campus and UA SGA will present arts awareness performances on UA Campus March 19-22. DCAF will culminate on Saturday, March 24 in a FREE, all-day, all-ages festival from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm in Government Plaza in downtown Tuscaloosa. The 2012 DCAF headliner is The Revivalists, a New Orleans band that unifies rock and soul. Other musicians performing on Saturday’s main stage include: Nightfires, Electric Moon, Ben Joseph, Gun Party, Alabama Blues Project, and CBDB.
The DCAF Music Crawl will precede the all-day Saturday celebration on Friday, March 23 in the following venues across town: The Jupiter, Green Bar, Bo’s Bar, and Copper Top. This year, the Music Crawl is the official after-party of the Tuscaloosa Get UP tornado benefit concert, featuring Alabama Shakes and The Dexateens. After the concert, each venue participating in the Music Crawl will showcase DCAF musical acts from 10:30 pm until the close of business. Bands participating in this year’s Music Crawl include: Black Willis, An Abstract Theory, This Side of 49, Hambagby and the Siege, American Freshman, The Sunshine Factory, Belle Mina, DJ Houndstooth, Blank State, and Good Morning Lucy.
For $5 you can purchase an all-access DCAF after-party wristband to gain access to all DCAF participating venues. All Tuscaloosa Get UP concert ticket-holders will receive a free DCAF Music Crawl wristband upon admission. Wristbands are only for patrons ages 19 and up. If you purchase a wristband at any location, you will be asked for ID showing your age. Age for admission has been left to each venue and is subject to change. All wristband proceeds will benefit Tuscaloosa Habitat For Humanity.
Druid City Arts Festival started as a student idea and is fully produced by The University of Alabama’s Creative Campus’ undergraduate student interns. These students have done more than put together an arts festival; they have brought together a strong line-up of local regional musicians, artists, storytellers, created a fun family atmosphere, and turned a bright spotlight towards Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The process has been one of education and balance as the students have learned the ins and outs of large scale arts event planning while juggling their classes. From arranging for dumpsters and tents to working with artists and fundraising the process has been both arduous and rewarding as their project has taken shape.
Druid City Arts Festival is FREE, open to the public, and will take place rain or shine. Druid City Arts Festival is presented by The University of Alabama’s Creative Campus with support from The Tuscaloosa Arts Council, Bama Dining, Office of Advancement, and NeedTo.com. BIOGRAPHIES
The Revivalists
Since forming in 2007, The Revivalists have earned their standing among the best original bands in New Orleans. The group’s blend of soulful, syncopated rock and earnest songwriting comes to life through a meticulously crafted ever-evolving live performance. In 2011, they were named Best Emerging Artist at Gambit Magazine’s Big Easy Awards. The band is proud to be included in New Orleans’ burgeoning independent, original music scene.
The Revivalists have been touring since 2008. They are proud to have opened for notable acts such as The Black Crowes, Tab Benoit, Dr. John, The Rebirth Brass Band, The Radiators, Marco Benevento, The Lee Boys, Perpetual Groove, Trombone Shorty, Snarky Puppy, Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Ivan Neville’s Dumpstaphunk, Soulive, and Galactic. Additionally, they have established themselves as an engaging festival act, winning over audiences at B.O.M.B Fest in Connecticut, DeLuna Fest in Florida, French Quarter Fest, The Kennedy Center Millennium Stage series in Washington, DC and the legendary New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. There, they caught the attention of Rolling Stone senior editor David Fricke, who wrote about their performance on RollingStone.com.
The Revivalists 2008 self-titled debut E.P was listed as an editor’s pick for both the Jam Band and American Traditional Rock on CDBaby.com (the leading online market place for independent artists). Their second release, 2010’s Vital Signs, is the band’s first full-length album. The young band was privileged to record under the guidance of Grammy Award-winning engineer/producer Chris Finney, whose resumé ranges from Dr. John to R.E.M. Songs off the album have been featured on MTV, Paste Magazine’s Music Sampler, and on American Airlines flights. Vital Signs quickly became the top-selling album on CDBaby in the American Rock category.
The Revivalists next album is scheduled for a release in early 2012 and is being produced by Ben Ellman, whose production credits include Galactic, Gypsyphonic Dysko, and Trombone Shorty.
