Date Night: Tres Vidas

As part of UA's celebration of National Hispanic-Latino Heritage Month, Creative Campus co-sponsored the performance of ìTres Vidas,î a musical theater work, on September 24 in Moody Music Concert Hall. Written by Marjorie Agosin and directed by Matthew Wright, the "Tres Vidas" celebrates the lives of three Latina women: Mexican painter Frida Kahlo, Salvadoran peasant Rufina Amaya, and Argentinean poet Alfonsina Storni. Additional sponsors for the event were the Womenís Resource Center, School of Music, New College, Womenís Studies Department, Housing and Residential Communities, Hispanic Student Association and Campus Programming Council.

Built on the premise that more people attend arts events when a social element is involved, Creative Campus Date Night events add a social function to existing arts programs. The "Tres Vidas" pre-event at a local Mexican restaurant allowed students to eat and mingle prior to the show as well as to hear monologues as a sneak peek for the arts event. The student actors also filled in participants on some of the history and background of the performances, so that they were more prepared going into the play.
