Deck the Halls breathes life into mundane campus spaces
Creative Campus instituted the Deck the Halls series primarily to achieve the following two goals:
1) transforming mundane areas of campus buildings into aesthetically pleasing and engaging gallery spaces;
2) providing student artists with new venues to display their work.
During the spring and fall 2006 semesters, Creative Campus engaged in three activities under the auspices of this program.
Elliot Knight/Nott Hall
When the Honors College took over Nott Hall, it lacked a distinctive feel. Neutral-colored walls and furniture decorated the honors student lounge until UA junior Elliot Knight turned it into a temporary gallery for his show "Works from the Fall." Beginning with a Creative Campus-hosted opening reception on April 13, 2006, Knight displayed photographs taken during the prior fall semester for approximately one month. The exhibit featured photographs as diverse as a burning can captured mid-air and a beat-up American flag caught on a gutter-drain in post-Katrina New Orleans. Some were in bold, neon colors, whereas others were in black and white. The images also featured themes such as how man fits into the world around him, connections between humans and the environment, and the political climate.
