Freshman Forum

The Freshman Forum is a year-long leadership training intensive available to freshman at The University of Alabama. Students go through an interview process of which 150 students are selected for the program. These students then go through three separate, five week long rotations broken up into three areas: Public Policy, Professional Development, and Creative Leadership.

The Creative Campus has provided an intern to develop and facilitate the Creative Leadership portion of the Freshman Forum experience since 2006. Topics have included: Types of Creative Leaders, Brainstorming and Brainwriting, Divergent Thinking, and Creativity in Education Today. During some sessions, students are given problems with many different possible solutions. These solutions may be discovered through team building activities, brainstorming, the use of Lego’s®, and other creative opportunities.

Student end their five week session with a belief that all people have the potential to develop creatively and that creativity plays a vital role in leadership development through the implementation of divergent thinking and idea generation.
