Missing Link: Poetry & Hip-Hop in the Community

Missing Link: Poetry & Hip-Hop in the Community (with PUNCH Writer's Project)

Creative Campus partnered with PUNCH Writer's Project to present a reading by Tracie Morris, a multi-disciplinary poet and performing artist. The event also gave students from the University of Alabama and community high schools an opportunity to share their talents in a variety of related art forms, including dance and rap. Furthermore, Morris conducted a workshop earlier in the day entitled "Perfoming the Sounds of the Poem," which was intended to teach students how sound considerations help them with editing and developing poetry for the page and performance.

Part of Creative Campus' Date Night series, Missing Link ended with a reception and drew more than 400 people to the Ferguson Center. The event served as an opportunity to reach out to the African American community on and around campus and became the launching pad for the annual Hip-Hop Summit. Sponsors for the event included the Coalition for Diversity and Inclusiveness, New College, College of Arts and Sciences, Womenís Resource Center, SGA Financial Affairs Committee, and Cultural Community Programming.
