John Cimino
On Monday October 13, the University of Alabama was Host to John Cimino and Creative Leaps International Group. This group of individuals came and treated the campus to a musical experience unlike anything ever before. Over the course of two hours, Cimino and company gave the audience a demonstration of world class musical and vocal skills. But more importantly than anything that was done audibly, was what took place inaudibly in the hearts and minds of the individuals partaking in the experience. The group challenged each audience member to look inside themselves and see what they were inspired to do because of these outside stimuli. The audience’s interaction as they told where their minds took them was quite amazing. Even more amazing is where this framework took the Creative Campus Interns the next morning. The next morning Dr. Cimino and his colleagues came to Maxwell Hall and aided in the interns thinking through and brainstorming on a possible large scale collaborative event focusing on the restoration of Foster Hall. The creative spirit was truly thriving, and it was also a testament to the abilities of unbridles creativity. That is, creativity in its purest form is no respecter of persons, disciplines, backgrounds, etc. It draws no boundaries or distinction. And pure creativity was truly present, people from a multiplicity of back grounds gave collaborative birth to what has the potential to be one of the most influential and prolific projects to come out of the University of Alabama. In short, from the moment Dr. Cimino and the Creative Leaps Group set foot on campus, they began influencing. Their influence that started on that one night in October will undoubtedly be seen for years and years to come. So a great deal of thanks and gratitude to Dr. Cimino and his colleagues, they may never truly know how impactful their actions were.
