Creative Campus is teaming up with the Office of Academic Affairs, The College of Arts & Sciences, The College of Engineering, and the Bankhead Visiting Writers Series to present best selling author, Neil Gaiman in Tuscaloosa, Alabama in a public lecture at the Bama Theatre February 2010.  Gaiman's visit is funded in part bya a grant from the Southern Arts Federation in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts and the Alabama State Council on the Arts.

Gaiman has long been one of the top writers in comics and graphic novels; he also writes books for readers of all ages.  He is listed in the Dictionary of Literary Biography as one of the top ten living post-modern writers, and is a prolific creator of works of prose, poetry, film, journalism, comics, song lyrics, and drama.  He was chosen for this engagement because of his relevance to multi-disciplinary art forms and educational aspirations of our students.

Neil Gaiman is the winner of one Newberry, three Hugos, two Nebulas, one World Fantasy Award, four Bram Stoker Awards, nine Locus Awards, one British Fantasy Award, two British SF Awards, four Geffins, one International Horror Guild Award, and two Myopoeic Awards.  From his captivating DC Comics Sandman series, to his direction of Beowulf, screenplay writing and direction of Stardust, and most recent release of the animated feature Coraline. 5:30 pm - 6 pm Lobby doors open to ticket holders– bar available inside the Bama Theatre

6:45 pm - 7 pm Theatre doors open – general admission seating

7:30 pm Welcome, Hank Lazer & Introduction, Kate Bernheimer

7:40 pm – 8:30 pm – Neil Gaiman will present selected readings and talk

8:30 pm – 9:00 pm – Gaiman will respond to select submitted written questions from the audience

Gaiman related activities

In addition to presenting Gaiman, Creative Campus interns are planning a local screening of Coraline.  Interns have discussed a common reading of a Gaiman book "Death: The Time of Your Life" for UA students through the Ferguson Center and are planning a graphic novel arts engagement module for community members at the Wood Village Community in January and February leading up to Gaiman's visit. 

Gaiman will also give an intimate talk to MFA students in Creative Writing on Friday, February 19, 2010 at 10 am.
